LotRo Lore-master Info

This is a brief overview of the class because I couldn’t find all this information in one place on the Internet. There are links embedded that take you to more in-depth articles about the various aspects of play. This is a work in progress.

Game: Lord of the Rings Online

Class: Lore-master

Role: Crowd-control/Pets

Lore-masters are, in my opinion, the Druids of Lord of the Rings Online. Their nature-based magic includes fire damage, healing, stuns, roots, mezzes, resurrection, debuffing, Power transfer and calling woodland animals to tank and dps. Sounds like a tree hugger to me.

Lore-masters solo very well, being able to take on same-level elites with their ability to stun and debuff mobs. In groups, they are highly prized for their Power sharing ability as well as their crowd control.

Main Functions

Crowd Control • Power Sharing • DPS • Emergency Healing

Pets

Lore-masters currently have 4 combat and 8 non-combat pets at their call.

Combat Pets

Raven: First attained at level 4, the pet is little more than a low damage DoT at lower levels. It can’t take too many hits and doesn’t do a great deal of damage. This may change at higher level.  As a solo pet, it’s passable until you can call a Bear at L14. In groups, it may be preferable, but the bear also provides offtanking.

Bear: Gained at level 14, this is your tank pet. More details to come.

Lynx: Introduced in Book 11, this is a rogue pet (high damage, low health.) It remains in stealth until ordered to attack, then it can open with a very high damage backstab-style attack out of stealth. Will probably become the pet of choice for L30+ Lore-masters. More details to come.

Eagle: Gained from a L50 quest, this pet has a few unique special abilities, but is generally not considered good enough to warrant the Legendary Trait slot it requires. More info to come.

All pets can be summoned with different skin textures: black, white, brown and red, mostly. Details on the Amulet Guide page.

Non-Combat Pets

Introduced in Book 11, the Lore-master has several quests available at high level (L30+) allowing them to call upon animals of the wild for non-combat purposes. Animals discovered so far are:

  • Hare
  • Sparrow
  • Tutle
  • Dog
  • Cat
  • Fox
