One Druid, Many Worlds

Wrath of the Lich King goes live in two weeks. The game has already changed with 3.0.2 introducing the massive talent and ability changes. Moonkin aka Balance Druids got enhanced DPS as well as more AE abilities, not to mention being able to use consumables while in owlbear form.

The game changes again when Northrend becomes available in the form of gear. Lots of shiny, shiny gear. The first thing you need to know before you dive in is what stats you are looking for. There is no more +spelldamage gear. It’s all +spellpower now and doubles as your healing gear. That, plus INT, mp5 and some SPI you’ll be topping the DPS charts in no time.

Let’s take a look at the chest pieces available to you in Northrend in the first few days.

Though Howling Fjord may be entice you, you’ll want to hit Borean Tundra first to choose one of these two quest reward chest pieces:

The Floodplain Vest has more INT, but no STA and less Spellpower. It’s the reward choice in the third of a seven quest chain. Talk to Sergeant Hammerhill, the mounted dwarf by the west gate of Valiance Keep leading out to the continent for Alliance. Hammerhill also gives you quest chain resulting in the Medic’s Morning Star. For the Horde, talk to the Walrus man, Waltor of Pal’ea, in Garrosh’s Landing and start the Horn of the Ancient Mariner two-part chain.

The Regenerative Hide Harness has less INT, but plenty of STA and Spellpower. Alliance Moonkin can talk to the gnome Ariman Skyhopper in Valiance Keep to start the 5 part quest that finishes with The Gearmaster and the reward. Hordies can locate Sauranok the Mystic in Warsong Hold who will send them on a 6 part quest with the reward at the end.

If you don’t want to quest for it, check the Auction House for these random drops:

• Caribou Vest
• Daggercap Jerkin
• Riplash Jerkin
• Wildevar Tunic
• Winterfin Chestpiece

They each have random enchantments. You’ll be looking for:

• of Intellect
• of Spell Power
• of the Eagle (STA & INT)
• of the Owl (INT & SPI)

The crafted leather chest piece at L70 is for Feral.
