WoW: Recalculate your cat dps for Patch 2.3

October 8th, 2007 by OneDruid

Something useful from the Official WoW Druid forums. I believe hell hath frozen over.

My fellow writer at WoW Insider, David Bowers, posted an article today about changes to Heart of the Wild. The short version is:

The feral talent Heart of the Wild, will be changed to gain +10% attack power in cat form rather than +20% strength…

Player Tangedyn posted a simple formula on the official forums that allows you to figure out what this means to your AP when Patch 2.3 goes live in 2009 (I kid! I hope…):

NEW_AP = (AP - STR/3) * 1.1

Where:
NEW_AP is your AP in patch 2.3
AP is your current AP in catform
STR is your current STR in catform

For example, my current gear buffed with just MOTW, I have 2885AP and 638STR
(2885 - 638/3) * 1.1 = 2940

A gain of 55 AP for me. Not bad.

Combine that with the other announcement that feral weapons are being buffed to scale better:

In addition there will be changes to Items that granted bonus attack power in Cat, Bear, Dire Bear, and Moonkin forms. These items have been re-evaluated and in almost all cases, the attack power on the item has been increased. This change corrects an issue where feral weapon damage was not keeping up with other classes in its rate of increase.

Looks like cat druids are going to get some dev lovin’ in Patch 2.3 after all.
