WoW: Guide To Making Shadowprowler’s Chestguard
Looking deeper into the components necessary to craft the new [Shadowprowler's Chestguard], I see that us non-raiding feral cat druids have a few obstacles ahead of us.
Obstacle #1 is to find a Leatherworker Revered with Violet Eye (Karazhan) faction to purchase the pattern and willing to part with the two [Primal Nether]s necessary.
Obstacle #2 is gathering the components. Here is the breakdown of what’s needed (all AH prices listed are my server):
- 10 [Heavy Knothide Leather] - gather the components to create this yourself if you’re a skinner or buy them off the AH at 1g each. 1g x 10 = 10g total.
- 12 [Primal Earth] - mine [Mote of Earth] from Outland ore or farm certain Earth Elementals at a 14% - 20% drop rate. For the 120 Motes you’ll need to kill 600-850 elementals, mine 600-1200 ore nodes or buy Primals for 10g each (x 12 = 120g.) Considering the work involved in farming these, it may be worth it just to buy them off the AH and run a couple of daily quests to get your cash back.
- 12 [Primal Shadow] - [Mote of Shadow] only drops off of void creatures. The easiest way to farm them is by killing L65 Void Walkers in Nagrand. They have a 20% drop rate, so you are looking at about 600 kills. AH prices on my server are 26g per Primal totalling 312g. Probably farming some and buying some will get you what you need.
- 16 [Bolt of Soulcloth] - Tailors can transmute this with 1 [Bolt of Netherweave] (made from 6 [Netherweave Cloth]) and 8 [Soul Essence]. Soul Essences drop in Karazhan.
But wait a minute, Mr. OneDruid. You said this item was obtainable by non-raiders. It is. You see, the other crafted items requiring Soul Essences are pretty much useless. So guilds either stockpile these in the guild bank, vendor them or put them on the AH. Your job is to scour the AH for any (I snagged 13 tonight for 1g each) or talk a guild out of them. You’ll need 128 total.
Once you have your 128 Soul Essences and 96 Netherweave Cloth, you need to find a 345 tailor you can make the Soulcloth. The [Pattern: Bolt of Soulcloth] is a rare vendor item in Nagrand, Silvermoon and the Exodar. There is very little need for it in tailoring, so you will probably have to track down the pattern yourself. Don’t forget to check out the AH also.
Don’t be discouraged at this point. Until now Soulcloth and Soul Essences have been fairly useless. If you’re smart and fast, you can snag the Essences and get your hands on the Soulcloth pattern before others get wise to their new use.
The last component you’ll need is:
- 2 [Primal Nether] - These drop from the end boss of Outland 5-man instances. 5% chance on normal mode, 100% on heroic. They are BoP so only high end crafters should be rolling on these. They are useless to a non-crafter and cannot be sold or traded. Since the person crafting the Chestguard for you has to acquire these on their own, you’ll probably be asked to compensate them 100g-125g per Primal Nether (x2 = 200g - 250g)
If you are going to spend the cash to attain this item, you’re looking at about 900g total depending on how expensive Soul Essences will be to acquire. That’s a little steep for someone like me who’s still saving the 5,000g for their epic flight form, so I’ll probably be doing a lot of farming. And it’s going to be worth every minute of it.
EDIT: Sorry for all the salmon coloring. I’m still figuring out how to change the color of linked items whose text comes back as default white.

Nice post! I am now seriously considering changing from alchemy/herbalism to leatherworking… this chest piece looks awesome! Being exalted with kara with a couple of primal nethers, getting this piece would be much easier than waiting to get the T4 chest piece!

I’m also considering dropping mining/tailoring for skinning/leatherworking to craft the epic BoP, but my current professions make me regular cash and I still need to purchase my epic flying mount skill.
Maybe after I get my Swift Flight Form, I’ll probably max out my LW before the expansion. Blizzard seems to be paying attention to different druid specs in LW lately.

A fellow druid of mine is after this chestpiece. I believe I gave her all my soul essences from last nights Kara run. She is way into getting and I’m glad to help. I’m resto now so I’m fine with a little shareage. Love the article.

Well i dropped alchemy and herbalism and did the switch last night… in a few hours i was 150 leatherworking / skinning. I’m not sure when the hard levels kick in, however so far its pretty cruisy levelling!
On the negative side of switching, I am no longer able to use my Alchemist Stone… is that a recent change? On the positive side, i got to whack two small allies skulking around the Barrens (allies in the Barrens are never up to any good!
)
One other thing i found through Throtbot and confirmed last night is that there are some Voidies to the southeast of the Legion Front in Hellfire Peninsula that have a high droprate of shadow motes. They are levels 60-62, and die really quickly! Hardly anyone down there too.
Soul essences are going to be the tricky ones… wish i hadn’t given away 40 a few weeks ago!

I managed to buy all the Soul Essences I needed off the AH in about 5 days. Paid 1g 50s each on average. Now on to mote farming.
Thanks for the tip on the Mote of Shadow farm spot. I’ll have to check it out.
